Mijas Golf Resort – Golfing in Malaga

Mijas Golf Resort

The Mijas Golf Resort is situated just a 30 minute drive from Malaga airport. Take the Fuengirola Coin Turnoff from the motorway and follow the road called Camino Viejo de Coin. The course is about 3,5 kilometres from the highway.

During the last decades, Mijas Golf has become one of the most popular golf complexes in Europe, known by the outstanding condition of their courses and the friendly atmosphere and excellent service provided to the clients.
Mijas Golf has made a great effort to satisfy the needs of its numerous users, and to that end, the course includes all conveniences. There is a practice area, buggy hire, manual and electric trolleys, putting green, bar-cafeteria, restaurant, shop, changing rooms, showers and parking.
In addition, running throughout the grounds, there are places to buy water and other drinks plus toilets. There is also the opportunity to take part in golf technique classes.

Mijas Golf Resort offers two Golf Courses:

Los Olivos founded in 1983/84 & Los Lagos founded in 1976. Both courses are designed by Robert Trent Senior.
The main feature which distinguishes Los Olivos from Los Lagos is the abundance of trees – hence the name – and its smaller size, as well as fewer water hazards. The greens are smaller, undulating and well defended. Although both are the work of the same designer, there is no doubt there are interesting contrasts between the two courses: if Los Lagos are based on hazards of water and sand, Los Olivos is strategic narrow tree lined fairways and elevated greens. Generally the course favours the precision golfer rather than the big hitter.
Los Lagos is a ground course with wide fairways and a few forest trees obstacles, but is defended by many bunkers and nine lakes, from which the course gets its name and which easily trap the ball. It is a course with soft movement and large greens. It could be said that the American designer wanted to present a course especially for amateurs, but at the same time, it can present a challenge for the best players.
One of “Los Lagos” most characteristic and difficult holes is the par 5 thirteenth. Seen from elevated tees it looks deceptively easy but at the approach to the green there is water left and right, also beware of the slope as even a well hit shot is in danger of rolling of the green into the water. the 5th a 571 metre monster, is also “interesting”. The course is almost free of rough and is practically flat except for a slight incline up the 18th hole.
There is an excellent selection of restaurants and bars within the resort, whilst the nearby town of Fuengirola also offers a range of restaurants, along with a cinema and various shops.

The delightful white village of Mijas, famous for its donkey-drawn taxis, sits high atop the mountains with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and several municipalities of the Costa del Sol below.
Within just a ten minute drive lies some of the best blue flag golden beaches imaginable, providing the ideal setting for peace and relaxation.
In between golfing there is no need to be bored as the area provide more sights to explore than you can possibly desire & your Golf Villas offer luxurious relaxation by the pool.
