The coast and countryside east of Malaga has a string of white villages; Nerja, Torrox & Frigiliana and further inland the villages of Sayalonga, Comares, Canillas de Aceituno, Archez and Competa. Since the new highway has been inaugurated it only takes a little less than an hour to drive from Malaga airport to the eastern part of the Malaga province.

Because its south-facing slopes are sheltered this area is the only area in Europe, that are able to grow tropical crops such as mangoes, avocados and bananas on a commercial basis.
